Mitu Aid – Compassion in Action, Rooted in Service
One of the proudest legacies of Mitu Associates is Mitu Aid, a charitable arm devoted to serving humanity with dignity, compassion, and unwavering commitment. Founded by the visionary Dr. Mostafa Kamal, Mitu Aid stands today as a beacon of hope for countless underprivileged individuals across Chandpur, Cumilla, Noakhali, and beyond.
Our Origins: A Legacy Built on Service
The story of Mitu Aid began in 1988 when Dr. Mostafa Kamal successfully established the first Medical Dispensary in the Rohitapara area. His passion for healthcare and his deep-rooted commitment to the well-being of his community laid the foundation for what would evolve into a robust network of charitable services under the banner of Mitu Aid.
With his background in medicine and his heart set on public welfare, Dr. Kamal envisioned a world where no person would be denied access to essential medical support simply due to financial hardship. Mitu Aid was born from this noble dream—an extension of the dispensary’s mission to touch lives, offer healing, and provide holistic support to those in dire need.
Carrying the Torch Forward: A Family Committed to Giving Back
Today, the legacy of Mitu Aid is carried forward by Dr. Kamal’s own family, who have imbibed his values of empathy, education, and action. His three daughters—Aysha Akter (Mitu), Sumaia Akter (Fancy), and Nupur Akter (Mim)—alongside his son Md. Abu Sufian Sarkar, have taken on leadership roles in operating and expanding the reach of Mitu Aid.
All four siblings are not only well-educated but also deeply devoted to their father's cause. They bring modern knowledge, organizational skills, and fresh energy to the mission, ensuring that the work of Mitu Aid continues to grow and evolve in response to the ever-changing needs of the community
Their tireless efforts, especially during times of crisis, reflect their unshakeable belief in the power of service. They serve as the backbone of the organization, overseeing everything from medical aid to food distribution and emergency response.Reaching the Unreachable: Serving the Underprivileged
Mitu Aid primarily focuses on reaching the poor and underprivileged sections of society—people who often fall through the cracks of conventional aid systems. In rural and semi-urban areas like Rohitapara and surrounding villages, access to basic healthcare, life-saving medicine, and nutritional support can be extremely limited.
Mitu Aid bridges this gap.
Through collaboration with local hospitals, clinics, and medical professionals, the organization helps those who would otherwise be unable to afford or access healthcare. Free medicines, medical check-ups, and ongoing treatment support are just a few of the services offered.
What sets Mitu Aid apart is its sustainability model. Medical assistance isn’t just given once—it’s offered on weekly, monthly, and even annual bases. This ensures that patients suffering from chronic conditions or long-term illnesses receive continued care without interruption.
Blood Donation: A Gift That Saves Lives
Mitu Aid organizes regular blood donation drives in collaboration with local hospitals, medical colleges, and volunteer groups. These campaigns are designed to:
- Raise awareness about the importance of voluntary blood donation
- Create a database of safe, reliable blood donors for urgent needs
- Ensure availability of rare blood types in remote areas
- Provide training to local youth on organizing and managing donation events
Thanks to the leadership of Dr. Kamal’s children and a dedicated team of volunteers, hundreds of lives have been saved through these drives. Mitu Aid also maintains a 24/7 emergency blood response team to connect donors and patients in critical situations.
If you're healthy and eligible, consider becoming a blood donor. One unit of blood can save up to three lives. It's a small act that makes a world of difference.
Crisis Response and Relief: The 2024 Flood Relief Effort
When disaster strikes, Mitu Aid is always among the first to respond. One of the most significant recent examples was the 2024 flood that devastated Noakhali and neighboring regions.
Within days of the flooding, Mitu Aid mobilized its resources to provide immediate assistance to affected families. The team, led by Dr. Kamal’s children, distributed:
- Medical supplies
- Basic food items
- Clean drinking water
- Hygiene kits
- Temporary shelter materials
This emergency response helped hundreds of families regain stability and security during a time of immense hardship. Their quick action and organized relief strategy not only saved lives but also restored hope in the community.
Healthcare with Heart: Regular Distribution of Life-Saving Medicines
One of Mitu Aid’s flagship programs is the regular distribution of life-saving medicines to those suffering from critical illnesses such as:
- Diabetes
- Hypertension
- Cardiovascular diseases
- Asthma
- Infections and post-surgery care
Patients often rely on Mitu Aid for their monthly prescriptions, which can be expensive and difficult to find in rural areas. By ensuring consistent access, Mitu Aid significantly improves quality of life and helps prevent medical complications that arise due to untreated illnesses.
This initiative has grown to include mobile medical units, which visit remote villages to offer on-site consultations and distribute necessary medications. With the growing support of local volunteers and medical professionals, Mitu Aid’s impact continues to expand.
Beyond Medicine: Food, Clothes, and Compassion
While healthcare remains at the heart of Mitu Aid’s mission, the organization recognizes that well-being is multifaceted. That's why Mitu Aid also runs seasonal distribution drives to support other basic needs, including:
- Meat distribution during Eid-ul-Adha
- Clothing donations in winter and festive seasons
- Food distribution campaigns during Ramadan and natural disasters
These programs, often organized by the younger generation of Mitu Aid’s leadership, have become annual traditions that communities rely on. They also foster a spirit of unity, gratitude, and mutual respect between donors, volunteers, and beneficiaries.
Partnership with Mitu Agro and Mitu Fisheries
A unique strength of Mitu Aid lies in its close partnership with Mitu Agro and Mitu Fisheries—two sister ventures of Mitu Associates that contribute significantly to food security and rural development.
These partnerships enable Mitu Aid to supply:
- Fresh vegetables grown through sustainable farming practices
- Nutritious fish varieties raised in hygienic and eco-friendly fisheries
- Packaged food items sourced from ethical, local producers
This collaboration ensures that the food distributed is fresh, nutritious, and locally produced, reducing logistical challenges and strengthening the local economy.
In addition, surplus produce from these ventures is channeled directly into Mitu Aid’s feeding programs—creating a sustainable cycle of production and giving.
Our Philosophy: Service with Dignity
At Mitu Aid, charity is not just an act—it is a philosophy. The organization believes in serving with respect, compassion, and cultural sensitivity. Every effort is made to ensure that beneficiaries are treated with dignity, their privacy is respected, and their voices are heard.
Volunteers and coordinators are trained not only in logistics and administration but also in ethical service, empathy, and communication.
Whether it's a patient in need of urgent surgery, a flood victim seeking shelter, or a hungry child waiting for a meal—Mitu Aid meets each individual with care and concern.
Looking Ahead: Building a Stronger Tomorrow
Mitu Aid is not content to rest on its past successes. The organization is actively planning to:
- Expand its network of healthcare partners and mobile clinics
- Build a permanent community health center in Rohitapara
- Launch a telemedicine platform for remote consultations
- Train local youth as community health workers
- Partner with national and international donors to scale operations
Each of these goals is part of a larger vision to build resilient, healthy, and self-sustaining communities across Bangladesh.
